In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, safeguarding your business against cyber threats is more critical than ever. One of the most effective ways to protect your accounts and sensitive data is by enabling multifactor authentication (MFA). At Tech Support Austin, we’re committed to helping our clients stay ahead of these challenges by ensuring their IT environments are secure and resilient.

Starting in 2024, Microsoft will enforce mandatory MFA for all Azure sign-ins and other administration portals. This requirement will roll out in phases, impacting various applications and tools that your business might be using. Here’s what you need to know and how to prepare.

Scope of Enforcement

MFA will be required for the following applications:

  • Azure Portal: Enforcement begins in the second half of 2024.
  • Microsoft Entra Admin Center: Enforcement begins in the second half of 2024.
  • Microsoft Intune Admin Center: Enforcement begins in the second half of 2024.
  • Azure CLI and Azure PowerShell: Enforcement begins in early 2025.
  • Azure Mobile App: Enforcement begins in early 2025.

If you or your team members access these applications, it’s crucial to set up MFA now to avoid disruptions when enforcement begins.

Why MFA?

MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring not just a password, but also a second form of verification—such as a code sent to your mobile device—before access is granted. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access, even if passwords are compromised.

Prepare for MFA Enforcement

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Set Up MFA for All Admin Accounts: Ensure that all users who access administration portals have MFA enabled.
  2. Review Current Security Settings: Assess your current authentication methods and consider more secure, phishing-resistant options.
  3. Use Conditional Access Policies: Implement Conditional Access policies to enforce MFA for all users.
  4. Leverage Tech Support Austin’s Expertise: Don’t navigate these changes alone. Let us help you seamlessly implement MFA across your organization.

Requesting More Time

If your organization needs more time to prepare, Microsoft allows Global Administrators to postpone the start date of MFA enforcement until March 15, 2025. However, delaying implementation increases your risk of exposure to threats.
